In 1941, the mountaintop known as Grandpa's Knob in Rutland County, Vermont, made wind energy history: it was home to the world's first megawatt-size wind turbine that successfully delivered power into an electric utility's system. Today, Noble Environmental Power is excited to follow in the footsteps of those who pioneered the world's first modern wind turbine on Grandpa's Knob. |
With its good wind resource, Grandpa's Knob is ideally positioned to provide economic and clean energy benefits resulting from a state-wide initiative to increase electric power generation from renewable energy sources. Noble is currently assessing the ridgeline in Castleton, Hubbardton, Pittsford, and West Rutland to determine its suitability for a windpark. Our initial estimates suggest that Grandpa's Knob could support up to a 50 megawatt windpark, which would yield the following benefits for communities: |
